SECTION 1 ICE HOCKEY HISTORY

The history of High School Hockey in our area spans over 3/4 of a century dating back to Mamaroneck winning the first ever WIIHL championship in 1932. It includes multiple leagues (HVHL, RCPSAL, WRPDIIHL) and teams from New Jersey & Connecticut playing in leagues with the Rockland & Westchester teams in the old days. Much has changed over the years including Rockland leaving Section 9 to join Section 1 in the1980’s, Putnam County schools adding hockey and joining Section 1 in the 1990’s, and one Dutchess County school adding hockey and joining Section 1 in the 2000’s. One thing has remained constant – high school hockey is one of the greatest sports to watch and has the most passionate fan-base around. Come out and see why!
