Rye Hockey Bucket


When Peter Thomas was named the 4th Head Coach in Rye High School’s storied hockey history, he wanted to honor all Garnet traditions and create new ones that will have a lasting impact on his players and the hockey program. So coach went shopping! Now, after every Garnets win, the player of the game is awarded the “Rye Hockey Bucket”. The player not only wears the bucket that night, but to school the next day!



12/7/16 Alex Ruggiero

Senior forward Alex Ruggiero recorded his first varsity hat trick including the game winner with 47 seconds left to play to lift the Garnets to a 6-5 win over With Plains.  For his efforts, “Reggie” will proudly wear the “Rye Hockey Bucket”.

12/11/16 Jack Petrucelli

Senior goaltender Jack Petrucelli recorded 20 saves in a shut out win over Buffalo area power Sweet Home.  “Petr0” made two first period goals stand up and for that reason he has earned the right to wear the “Rye Hockey Bucket”.

12/17/16 Ryan Kirkpatrick

Senior forward Ryan Kirkpatrick paced the Garnets to a 6-1 win over Beekmantown with his first career hat trick. By getting back to playing Rye Hockey, “Kirk” proudly wears the “Rye Hockey Bucket”.

12/30/16 Peter Patouhas

Freshman goaltender Peter Patouhas had a huge bounce back game in his second career start, posting 27 saves to backstop the Garnets to a 3-2 overtime win over Glens Falls, and for that reason, “Petey” has earned the right to wear the “Rye Hockey Bucket”.

1/4/17 Declan Lavelle

Freshman forward Declan Lavelle followed up his overtime heroics with the winning goal against Glens Falls with his first career hat trick against Mt. Pleasant.  Lavelle recorded the natural hat trick while chipping in an assist for a 4 point night en route to a 10-0 Garnets win.  For his accomplishments, “Deco” is awarded the “Rye Hockey Bucket”.

2/1/17 Cameron DiEdwards

Junior forward Cameron DiEdwards netted the game winner during the second period of the Garnets 1-0 win over Clarkstown when he pounced on an Alex Ruggiero rebound and roofed it past Clarkstown goalie, Tim Cavanaugh.  For his hustle and game winning goal, “Camo” earned the “Rye Hockey Bucket”.

2/8/17 Will Hynson

Senior forward Will Hynson set the tone on Senior Night, pacing the Garnets to a 7-1 victory over Pearl River.  The captain led the way with 2 goals and 1 assist to top all Garnet scorers.  For his leadership and performance during his last regular season home game, Will is is awarded the “Rye Hockey Bucket”.

2/10/17 Johnny Finnegan

Sophomore defenseman Johnny Finnegan stepped up, logging heavy minutes for the Garnets in game 1 of the Salmon River Tournament versus Norwood-Norfolk.  Johnny shut down the opposition, making play after play on the blue line to help the Garnets earn a 4-2 win.  For his effort, “Finny” has earned the right to wear the “Rye Hockey Bucket”.

2/11/17 Declan Lavelle

Freshman forward Declan Lavelle helped secure a 2-1 win over Salmon River when  he scored the game winner with 3 seconds on the clock.  The win helped the Garnets win the Salmon River tournament for the second straight season.  Due to his heroics, “Deco” has for the second time this season been awarded the “Rye Hockey Bucket”.

2/20/17 Seamus Carroll

Junior defenseman Seamus Carroll recorded his first career varsity hat trick in the Garnets 7-0 playoff win against Hen Hud.  In addition to supplying offense, Seamus played a crucial role in shutting down the opposition.  For his contributions offensively and defensively, “Moose” will proudly wear the “Rye Hockey Bucket”.
