Rye Wins BOTH Games over the December Break!

For the first time in SIX years Rye won BOTH of its games at the Annual December Break  “Glens Falls Rivermen Winter Classic Tournament”.

Congratulations to Captain Nat Deen and Alternate Captain Theo Bresolin on being named the Garnets MVP’s to the All Tournament Team.

Game 1: Rye Shuts Out Queensbury 5-0!

RYE won 5-0 with 9 Garnets getting in on the score sheet! Rye avenged their 3-0 loss last December to the Spartans.

The Player of the Game as selected by Coach Thomas was Will Hynson with his FIRST Varsity goal!

Quote from Coach Thomas “It was a great effort this weekend.”

Goals and Assists:

Derek Mullane, Aidan Lavelle, Theo Bresolin, Tommy O’Brien and Will Hynson all scored a goal. And Michael Kamer, Theo Bresolin, Nick Berger, Rocco Macri and Mac McGovern all had assists!

Goalie Nat Deen had an 11 save shutout.

The Garnets outshot the Spartans 21 to 11 and went 2/9 on the power play (Queensbury went 0/2).

Game 2: Rye Defeats Glens Falls 3-2 in OT!

For the second December in a row the Garnets defeated the tri-high school Rivermen. But this was not a 1-0 shutout like last December, this was a very tight game with multiple momentum shifts. The Garnets were outshot 50(!) to 28, and Goalie Nat Deen made 48 saves before Theo Bresolin scored the OT winner!

The scoring started in the second period with the Garnets getting on the board first. Glens Falls then scored twice to lead 2-1 mid-way thru the third frame, but Rye did not panic and stuck to their system. They were rewarded with 6 minutes left in regulation when Rocco Macri netted the equalizer. The final minutes were tense with the Garnets taking a penalty with 2 minutes remaining, but the Garnet’s killed it off. The 5:00 minute extra frame started with Glens Falls getting the first 3 shots but the Garnets rallied and at 3:26 of OT Rocco Macri fed a streaking Theo Bresolin who made no mistake and bulged the twine at the back of the net to register the game winner!

The Player of the Game as selected by Coach Thomas: Theo Bresolin with 2 goals including the OT winner!

Goals and Assists:

Despite the Garnets scoring 3 goals only two players got on the score sheet! Theo Bresolin scored the first goal unassisted, and his line mate Rocco Macri scored the Garnets second goal also unassisted. The tandem combined in OT with Rocco assisting Theo on the winning goal.

Goalie Nat Deen made 48 saves on 50 shots.

Garnets went 1/3 on the PP, whereas Glens Falls did not score on any of their 3 power plays.

NEXT GAME THIS WED at PLAYLAND! RIVAL GAME?

For those of you who were not able to travel the 200 miles (and back) over the December break to see the Garnets, they are back in action this Wednesday, January 7th at 7:45pm much closer to home at PLAYLAND!

Please come out and cheer on your Garnets as they bring their 3 game winning streak against the John Jay Cross River Indians!

The Indians view this match up against the Garnets as a BIG RIVAL game and they circled this one on their calendar at the beginning of the season according to Lohud “Previewing the John Jay Indians”. Rye beat John Jay twice last season, once in the final game of the regular season and a second time to knock them out of the playoffs in the Section 1 Semi-Final game!

Let’s Go Garnets!
