Very sadly, we lost one of our own this summer. Former Rye Varsity Hockey player and RHS Class of 2013 graduate, Peter Collins passed away on July 26. He was the heart and energy of all the teams he played on, whether a Mariner or a Garnet. His passion for the game and strong support of his teammates were integral to the success of the Varsity Team. Peter was always a dedicated friend. Many of us fondly remember the chant of “PE-TER-COL-LINS” loudly rising from the student section of Garnet fans during many games.
The Rye Varsity Hockey Program has decided to remember Peter in the best way we know how: going forward there will be a Collins Cup, awarded to the most spirited team player at the end of each season. The dedication of the Collins Cup and a moment of silence for Peter will be held at the Garnets HOME OPENER on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2014 at Playland at 7:45pm.
